History
has shown that every new invention in communication creates its own
unique subculture. Just like the shift from radio to tv, the evolution
from traditional mail ("snail mail") to electronic mail ("email")
signals the beginning of a new era in communications. This sudden immersion
into contemporary culture covers every field, thus changing the role
of the artist, and is further enriched by structural components, criticism
and ideas.
This is the foundation of ArtExpo.Mexico.04, an artistic event that involves 77 international artists from Japan, UK, Canada, United States, Venezuela, Turkey, Korea, Mexico, Belgium, Macedonia, Germany, Spain, France, New Zeland, Poland, Argentina, Brazil, Bulgary, Colombia, Luxemburgo, Malta, Romania and Italy. Painting, sculpture, photography, digital art, video installations: many possible routes to follow, many different artistic paths which converge in the art of communication. ArtExpo.Mexico.04 directed by Luca Curci, coordinated by the general director of solaris/observatorio Juan Pablo Arroyo and the director of centro experimental observatorio Nicolas Husquet, will bring 77 artists from all over the world at Solaris/observatorio - Av Madero Pte 398-11 planta alta Centro Morelia, Michoacan - México - c.p.58000 (Tel/Fax +0052 443 3174165), from 07 to 28 february 2004. Opening february 07 2004 at 8p.m. |

Solaris
opened its doors on june the 13th 2001. Since then has offered film workshops
and produced about 40 shortfilms. There is a small movietheater in solaris
where everyday we show independent short and longfilms and the access
is for free. The main goal of solaris is to generate links with filmmakers
and visual artists. We believe that the film world has to be close to
the society and that´s why we open our installations to anyone who
wants to express their ideas trough the filmmaking art. Solaris was originally
formed by Juan Pablo Arroyo, its actual director. Because of the accelerated
development of contemporary art and the society's need for new forms of
art, Solaris creates Observatorio, an experimental art center, directed
by Nicolas Husquet in collaboration with Juan Pablo Arroyo. Observatorio
was born in september 2003, and inaugurates with the Festival of Visual
Arts and Sound with Belgium as the main guest. The success of this festival
encouraged us to keep on bringing international and national exhibitions
to the space and since last year the first friday of every month we open
a new exhibition. Observatorio has worked with artists such as Walter
Verdin, Guido-Lu, Maria Blondel, Patrick Beaulieu with his project Transfriable,
Tamara Lai and many others artists who have found here an alternative
space to show their art works with a great impact on the local spectators.
Mexican Art Institutions like Centro de la Imagen trough Erandy Vergara
and the Rufino Tamayo Museum trough Arcangel Constantini have lend their
sight on observatorio and have made propositions on colaborating together.
In fact we have worked together already in a project called Urbangs created
by Tamara Lai in colaboration with Erandy Vergara. |
