Name/Surname: Donna L. Clovis

City/Country: USA

Film title: I Should Have Been a Contender

Running time: 15 min.

Brief film synopsis: Community boxing rings in New York City are becoming more and more abandoned. The boxing ring used to be the place where the poor could make a new start to life. It was especially powerful to women and people of color. The film uses digitzed photographs and film footage to express the desolation of a dream. It is a hope to draw attention to this sport again and get funding to help women, young people, and the poor achieve their dreams of success.

Name/Surname: Delalex Gilles & Wessel-Cessieux Thomas

City/Country: Paris - France

Film title:Metro: Paris - Hong Kong underground

Running time: 4 min.

Brief film synopsis: Metro evokes an improbable metroline stretched between Paris and Hong Kong. The line is 10 000 kilometre-long and constituted of only two stops, one at the beginning, one at the end. It unfolds as a tube city, a single corridor remaining underground and offering no possible transfer or exit between the two metropolises. The video offers an overview of this fictional city by focussing on the mechanical movement passengers through corridors and coaches. The blend of black rubber, white ceramic tiles, metal gates and series of over-lit faces give the video the feeling of a twenties expressionist movie. The entire film is made of one second-video loops, each composed of 5 still frames taken with a digital camera using continuous shooting. The effect is that of a stroboscopic sequence advancing incrementally by means of repetition.

Film title: Asynchrone Großstadt (engl.: Berlin - City out of Sync)

Running time: 3 min. 33 sec.

Name/Surname: Guido'Lu

City/Country: Belgium

Film title: erratum
Running time: 7 min. 36 sec.
Brief film synopsis: This video evokes a voyage between sky and ground. A voyage between ''illusion’’ and ''reality'’. Between lights and black pit. Opacity and transparency. A continual to and from... between oppressive noises and premonitory silences... Aberration of a extravagant mislaying which does not leave any loophole with the completely absorbed spectator, captivated by the mannerism of this gyratory divagation. The large wheel always allows this false escape within an open fair in boiling... and even an evening, emptied its lowing crowd, the magic is only more oppressive a ‘’zone’’ populated anachronistic skids, confusions, uncertainties, No man' s Land in No man' s Land... Suspensions where are woven obscure links... Influences where forward the random divagations - attributes of the Affect are put.

Film title: interludes 14 x1'
Running time: 15 min.
Brief film synopsis: The original comprises 36 clips. 14 clips of 1 minute were selected. Each clip can be seen like a film with whole share. We made a unit of it.... Each clip ends in a proverb-title quoted like a received truth or an example typical, taken as “a Formula” (pretentious and banal sentence) presenting stable formal characters, often metaphorical or illustrated and expressing an experimental truth or consulting of a practical and popular wisdom. Each clip contains its batch of escape drafts, (no-)controlled skids, of effects jubilatoires, while maintaining a certain reserve calculated… This video is an example of our personal leitmotiv ‘Critical-Clinic-Ludic”. The whole is perceived like closed cells, Interludes-labyrinth between “Affect-Reference-Affect”.

Film title: petite pilule pour la Folie, Opérette en 36 tableaux
Running time: 15 min.
Brief film synopsis:Mosaic work made up of 36 windows. Each window contains a succession of provisional transient settings (parts), continuation of various clips combined in order to obtain continuously "overall settings" where some pauses are proposed by the multiplication of the same clip simultaneously. 36 distinct settings. Fixed camera, frontal vision. Each setting (clip) is a singular sight which parodies theatrically gestures or shifted acts of common reality. Which common reality? Why this tandem (man - woman of forty years, average size and corpulence) sings; dance; runs or pedals staying put ; slaps itself ; blows bubbles ; feels like or hides behind a ventilator ; strike the camera not to be seen ; hammers its testicles (of course not!) ; whips itself with a bunch of flowers; meditates the head in a bucket ; to be or not to be... Snow White (oh yes!) ; agitates hands; smokes a cigar ; rubs the face with its feet to make grimaces, and so on... poses in front of the camera just for saying look at me or just only to be "right here right now" and provoking still and still interludes, anachronistic moments? Why this couple side-by-side (only a little)? Just to create an image? An image with acid colors, with decor as stripped as could be, since it's only here a "no man's land"... Just being there for an amalgam of a "you want some ? Here it is!" of interventions sometimes intriguing, sometimes funny, sometimes absurd, sometimes incomprehensible, completely free (not sure!), but always posed and perfectly selected with parsimony. Each setting has its own sound (onomatopoeia, classical music, sound effects, speaking and so on...), and distinguishes itself by its own identity. Whole minutely orchestrated. The mixing of all these sonorous & visual ingredients gives the giddiness, a faintness of no return... of single way journey. A quasi hypnotic kaleidoscopic sight, infernal device which works to full mode... a race in a pure state , sacrilizing instants of percussion. These "Icons", multiple flashes, prevent at the moment any reflexion and this, in spite of the multitude of complicities-connection put forward by the cutting. Digestion for later... Hoping so!

Name/Surname: Magda Matwiejew

City/Country: Victoria - Australia

Film title: Arabesque

Running time: 8 min. 47 sec.

Brief film synopsis: Arabesque is a work which uses digital technology to create spaces and movement from still images. Spaces are formed that open and close, expose and conceal; form dissolves into abstraction, and the figured becomes unfigured. A sense of ritual and ceremony is implied by these changes and movements, and the veiling and unveiling of forms and scenes. A viewer is surrounded by and drawn into an imaginary world, where what is real and what is fantasy is uncertain, a synaesthetic world where forms, colours and patterns offer delight to the senses. Arabesque finally is poetic rather than narrative in form.

Film title: U.M.O.

Name/Surname: Luca Curci – Fabiana Roscioli

City/Country: Italy

Film title: impossible.love

Running time: 6 min. 16 sec.

Brief film synopsis: Luca Curci and Fabiana Roscioli present the video impossible.love. No place. No space. No identity. Only a binary vision in a dimension, in which the body-machine tries to interact, to communicate. Fighting between the essence and the absence, the contact and the vision, the silence and the vacuity. Coming in the life of people using the body in order to create in them a deep crisis, a fracture between the vanity of the identity and the frailty of the representation.

Film title: I am Lost

Running time: 2 min. 35 sec.

Name/Surname: Márcia Brandão

City/Country: Belo Horizonte - Brazil

Film title: Revestir

Running time: 7 min. 44 sec.

Brief film synopsis: This video reflects the concept elaborated by Antonio Gramsci of the “organic intelectual”. Composed in a acute and revelating point of view the work of the artist demonstrates the overcoming of all the obstacles that intercepts the social mobility in Brazil. It triumphes over its origin and passes beyond racism and the cultural arrogance as well. This work is above all, poetic. Its poetry is made with the objects that integrates the singular universe of the artist, what touches her body and is captured by her eyes.

Name/Surname: LEUNG Mee Ping

City/Country: Hong Kong - China

Film title: Out of Place - WanChai Version

Running time: 12 min.

Brief film synopsis: I noticed a man meandering through the Wanchai district streets of Hong Kong, following and recording his daily life for a week with no any direct contact with him. This surveillance or intrusion reveals my fascination with following a complete stranger for almost a week. It appears that I secretly investigated a person who has no fixed place in the city, one who wanders aimlessly at first, seemingly not able to remember who, or where he is, outside the society that no longer notices his existence. We see him stumbling confused, and disorientated娗nd yet he is amongst us, someone we perhaps would not give a second glance. Out of Place in precisely that ambiguity between notions of public and private, home and place, and the position of the subject, concentrates on the micropolities of Chinese society through the individual, and probes into the ordinary life of a lone figure.

Film title: LIKE LIFE
Running time: 4 min.
Brief film synopsis: Images, born from the world and from the world given away, betrayed and changed images on their own shade.Coming from tv news, from the street, from videoclip, from domestic movies, from life, afterwords purified, homogenized, oxigenated till to trasform them on ritm, pulses, flow and waves. A slow flowing, an easy rhitmic going, a symmetric becoming of shapes only apparently whitout a meaning, but hiding in their memories secret events, man becoming clouds, desasters trasformed on fireworks, cars loading like butterflies and butterflies seeming human faces. We lost the memory of things, only a trace has been left, a thin ray to collect and wrop up just hoping that it could get us to peace and could reveal us someting good, or at least could give us some rest and get the conditions for our minds to find new spurs, new creating humus ad future orizons. So, up and down, joy and sorrow, light and dark like our existence, boring greyness or explosions of energy and colour like our life.

Film title: IN A GLASSES HEAD
Running time: 4 min.
Brief film synopsis: Images, quickest daughters of this furious and technological time, excavate deep drills in our convictions. World bombs every human being with events more and more surrealistic and poisonous, lethal for mental health ness. Our brain gets no more protections. Our bones and our head became transparent like brittle glass. We cannot avoid the wild and cruel radiations and in the brain the grey matter becomes less and less substantial. It burns by pain in its martyrdom. It risks to evaporate by any misfortune. Human brain cries for any little sorrow, any obstacle. It becomes a disarmed witness, nearly paralyzed in front of a reality so strong and aggressive that makes vain any defence. Frame by frame, shock by shock, the human being becomes conquest ground for atrocities and barbarities, just victim of small or big horrors, martyr of the barbarism of these cruel days. Just till oblivion and silence will pervade any neuron, any cell of minds just lost in the darkness of madness.

Name/Surname: HELLAIMORTH (Clément Zerbola)

City/Country: Aix-en-Provence - France

Film title: 11

Running time: 19 min.

Brief film synopsis: 11 is a video which experiments the function of the black (at night video) and the reception of a symbolic profusion. The signs and the symbols of five performances, making reference to the mythology notably, are articulated around an enigmatic concept dedicated to offer a semiological explosion. The various scenes (stages) also want, in their context of creation to make echo for historic acts by proposing a personal optics on these. An optics which, in spite of the variety of its contents, is unified around the transit of an object, particularly significant and it on several levels given that its meanings are anchored in the collective unconscious.

Name/Surname: Colette Copeland

City/Country: Philadelphia - USA

Film title: Wormbelly
Running time: 3 min. 50 sec.
Brief film synopsis:The video is based on a vivid story I was told in childhood, which has haunted me for years. Although it references a specific narrative, the work addresses larger cultural issues such as the manipulation of the media through advertising and fashion and its manifestation into society’s values. This visceral memory has remained embedded in my conscious, as a testimony to the extremes one will endure for the sake of beauty.

Film title: Crow's Tale
Running time: 3 min. 50 sec.
Brief film synopsis: The work explores the issue of memory on both a personal and collective level, as it relates to race, identity, and cultural heritage. Drawing from childhood memories, the video contemplates the legacy of prejudice, questioning the family and cultural inheritance and its impact on the individual. The manipulation of time, motion and space calls into question the veracity of memory and the construction of narrative.

Name/Surname: Ferhat Ozgür

City/Country: Ankara - Turkey

Film title: Monsieur! This Is Ankara Castle

Running time: 15 min. 20 sec.

Brief film synopsis: In Ankara Castle the children who were guiding the tourists were giving information about the castle with an incomprehensible English. I also wanted to get them information from them and gave each of them 1 New Turkish Lira, to get it started. In fact, they were not quite aware of what they were talking about. This was not any of significance, since all of them were reciting from a text that they had memorized. A retired teacher of history came and explained another “original version”, as she was rather personal commentary about both the foundation of new Turkish Republic and history of castle...

Name/Surname: Kate Moyse & Simon Waller

City/Country: Paris - France & London - UK

Film title: To Be is To Fit

Running time: 3 min. 45 sec.

Brief film synopsis: 'To Be is To Fit' considers the relationship between the body and consumerism, exploring how the body becomes a product marketed by society. Playing on the idea that shoppers are spoon-fed happiness through the importance placed on material goods and surface aesthetics, the film creates a dark conflict in identity where the body is forever changing. The soundtrack samples directly from the locations where the film was shot. Using ambient sounds together with cold and detached voices issuing commands, the music provides a sinister interpretation of the repetitive nature of shopping.

Name/Surname: Evangelia Basdekis

City/Country: Sheffield - UK

Film title: Yes, Art is Beautiful!

Running time: 5 min.

Brief film synopsis: In her video, titled 'Art is beautifu l', the artist is embroidering a common pattern into her palm. Evangelia Basdekis manages to outline, with violence, but also with clarity, her inevitable path as an artist towards a dead end isolationism and the final self-poisoning with Art. Thus she comes to the tragic conclusion that the supposed artistic freedom is an illusion. With full self awareness of her ‘captivity’, she moves on to exploring the roles, first the one she has chosen for herself, and then the one that was assigned to her by society and the Art audience. Sitting on his cloudy chair, a hallucinated personage shifts from a situation of gravity to a floating state in weightlessness conditions which reveals his entrance into a state of dance. The entanglement of the actual impressions of a floating imbalance and of a specific state of concentration constitutes an intensive, rhythmic experience.

Name/Surname: Jean-François Boclé

City/Country: Paris - France

Film title: Tu me copieras (You Shall Copy)

Running time: 27 min. 29 sec.

Brief film synopsis: Squeaks. Scrapes. A breaking chalk falls on the floor, footsteps are heard on the classroom stand. They spark off memories, rising from childhood: school days, walking up to the blackboard, a pupil; his « Master ». A voice is heard, dictating the sixty articles of a 1685 decree by King Louis XIV, legitimating the genocide of Blacks in the lands conquered by France in America and the West Indies. It was in force until 1848. Under dictation, Jean-François Boclé is writing the Black Code, never wiping it clean.

Film title: Wish to share with you the empty happiness
Running time: 2 min. 59 sec.
Brief film synopsis: The formula of falling, eternal fakeness, empty life and sickening reality. Even though hard beaten by life, I still feel ecstatic about these for no reason. How to forgive? I could only pretend to forget. Suicide is still in danger of being saved. How pathetic and perky life is! It is full of too many mysteries.

Film title: Begging Project

Name/surname: Kestutis Sapoka

City/Country: Vilnius - Lithuania

Film title: Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Runinng time: 9 min. 33 sec.
Brief film synopsis: In the film there is also ironically interpreted as an advertisement formed body cult, man power as a Mach image projections in an individual consciousness, as not rarely the reality is very different for the advertisements and consumerism realities, which are matched up by society, how do the commercial images are able to form inferiority complex for individuals. In the footage I left only „rest during power exercises“ moments and I try to create a metaphor of vacuous act.

Film title: A Peacock
Runinng time: 13 min. 59 sec.
Brief film synopsis: A Peacock is one of the most radical creatures, it is not a video art or a video film directly, and it can be described as a video performance or a video-action. Such a drastic action from the first minute is only a wish to outrage using a flower bouquet as a symbol of middle class Lithuanians‘ beauty (and art) standard. As a symbol to change of significant accents, no so drastically outrage as getting sarcasm and absurdity effect. Also, it‘s an ironically melancholic thought what is beautiful, ugly; finally a modern artist must lay out in a case to be noticeable at galleries or art dealers.

Name/Surname: Claudia Mongini

City/Country: Vienna - Austria / Torino - Italia

Film title: Entropie

Running time: 4 min. 10 sec.

Brief film synopsis: Wax and red pigments are dissolved on a plexiglas plane, that itself undergoes a process of deformation though heat. In particular i´m interested in the exploration of the state change, the plasticy of the becoming-liquid process. A movement arises out of a rest state, a mixture of colors and forms is generated out of the melting of entities that were previously separate bodies with their own distinct borders. The moment of de-formation is the movement of loss of boundaries, a creation of new junctures, a state of flow that produces a dissolution and a continous re-shaping: a fall and a consequent loss of materiality that is paralleled to a production of dispersed energy.

Film title: H. 5.30 p.m.: music lesson

Running time: 3 min. 30 sec.

Brief film synopsis: The video shows us a music lesson for children of few month or just a couple of years. Throughout the singins and the rhythm, the teacher introduces the small pupils in to the world of the notes with a very simple and direct method. With her work Lucia Flego tries to underline the fact that the lesson is not just a music, but also (and especially) a moment of education to sensibility, harmony, and beauty and wants to incite us to believe that it will be exactly the beauty that will save the world. Her message is absolutely positive, because in anxious and unsure times, it is necessary to believe in the energy that comes from the art.

City/Country: UK

Film title: Blanks in Discourse: 03

Running time: 3 min. 40 sec.

Brief film synopsis: Reminding women of their association with error, the paternal discourse resides within the pages of womens magazines. Here magazine text is subverted with ‘rogue’ words I and Home in the colour red, usually used to denote errors in proof reading marks, but also representing a sense of self within a black text world. The text loops on a continuous scroll. Presenting the work in scroll format makes a theatre out of the theatre of being told a story or controlled. Finally I wanted to bring in an aural sense of error, and used the computer error sound as a signal which beeps every time a word ‘which is not meant to be there’ (i.e. I or Home) passes the top of the screen.

Brief film synopsis: During the human being's evolution ther is ever been a pourpose to create her link beetween the surface of the earth and man's installation, by building a streight feeling with the space that he wants to know deep inside. The hand is certanly the natural way to the emphiric reality discover. If that is right for the modern solid age, it is not good for the post-modern age indeed; infact for the modern liquid age the great Cartesian's project - man in harmony with his space- it seems to be in a hard crysis. In the post -modern age Cartesio is dead.

The short film "happy die" is the first one of the project "frozen dynamic". it's a cooperation between two family members, a brother and a sister, both of them artists, but in different cities and life situations. they are discussing old "frozen" topics like love, hate, birth, luck, ....death. their first film is called "happy die". you can see a person at a railline waiting. the actress seems to wait for nothing and staring at nothing at the same time. after seven minutes of waiting the camera moves away, showing the surrounding area and coming back to the girl again. this is the time when the girl's also going to move, but she only takes one step, perhaps in a fictionary future...as we all know, future is something unpredictable, something we are aware although we're often wasting time... she takes one step and one sip out of her juice. although her body changes position she still stays there, frozen in thoughts. in the background you can hear a voice thinking of life and death. most of the thoughts are pieces of discussion between brother and sister, some of them are famous words of famous persons mentioned at the end of the film. at the end you can see that she took a sip of "happy die"...a sip of lucky dying...or whatever...in austria you can buy yourself a juice called "happy day", now this movie creates an ambivalent feeling of beeing vulnerable and thoughtfully and maybe lucky at the same time.

Film title: Butterflies from your fingers
Running time: 2 min. 55 sec.
Brief film synopsis: Once upon a time there was a hevenly feminine creature half angel, half butterfly. The video "Butterflies from your fingers" is ispired by the prototype of a feminine creature, sweet, nice, fragile and pure but at the same time strong and powerful. In the video the woman like the butterfly wants to get free from the catterpillar in which she is trapped to fly away and to be free. The video wants to celebarate the women's strenght and their ability to change and explode in their feminine power.

Film title: I'm in love with a ghost
Running time: 4 min. 23 sec.
Brief film synopsis: "I’m in love with a Ghost" is the imaginary and real love story of two souls, which are stopped by the fear and they are not able to realise their dream to stay together. The dream atmosphere, in which the feminine character is involved, is mixed with the real one of the masculine character. The line between the two situations is not well defined, the two worlds are melted. The story is divided in 4 moments as the four garments in it, cycle of feelings and emotions: the first dress is the expression of the meeting, the second one is the desire to connect each other, the third one is the timid separation and the last one, the desperate proof to try to stay together. In the last scene the feminine character wakes up and finds the “pieces” of her dream: the ripped photos, caused by a strong interior struggle and showing shadows of women's and men's hands, trying to link each other passionately and the second dress which is the symbol of their mental connection.

Film title: VI.123

Running time: 8 min.

Brief film synopsis: The video installation is conceived as three different journeys (represented into three interacting videos), exploring hidden mental spaces, real places and energies that come and go creating images very often just perceived by the eye. A space created to communicate, full of tension, made of balance and void, of personal history, that changes together with the person who visits it, who interprets it, always acquiring different connotations. As in a space-time journey one has the illusion of exploring different atmospheres, of meeting, through a minimalist language, already known spaces, sometimes created using geometrical elements, sometimes using bright ones, and, last but not least, real spaces created by men for men.

Film title: Odysseus in Ithaca

Running time: 5 min. 15 sec.

Brief film synopsis: Odysseus moors his boat in an alien architectural machine, a labyrinth with echoes of De Chirico and Escher- a place of mystery and power where the rules of visual perspective are transformed. His journey offers both a lament and a memory of past triumph. The video takes us on a dizzying voyage through the manifolds of a parking garage, down spiralling ramps into a deep interior space; it is a flight into the depths. We view the outside world through apertures that seem to obey deeply contradictory laws of motion. We are both enwombed and free and arrive, at last, at a token of identity. Odysseus remembers the sea.

Film title: Small Moves/Joe Luke

Running time: 12 min.

Brief film synopsis: Made in 1999 during the WTO Ministerial in Seattle, 'Small Moves/Joe Luke' is a portrait of the Seattle Police, shot while I made a longer documentary about the processes of the WTO itself, its economic direction and leadership. Collaborating with composer Riz Maslen, I wanted to describe my experiences of the police activities through sound and image. The film contains no acts of violence; it is the threat of violence that is presented. I wanted, as a filmmaker, to make this very clear, to give the audience a feeling of that threat, to describe an atmosphere that felt very peculiar to me in the 'World's Leading Democracy'.

Name/Surname: Ronnie Close

City/Country: Ireland/UK

Film title: Martyrs, Myths and Metaphors

Running time: 8 min. 15 sec.

Brief film synopsis: This work is a documentary video work investigating the role of the martyr myth in Irish republicanism and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The phenomenon of this connection emerges from the 1981 IRA hunger strike led by Bobby Sands. In Iran he was perceived as a revolutionary and iconic martyr and a Tehran street was renamed in his honour. The work begins with a direct video scene of a street interview. The next sequence takes place in Iran and employs the separation of visual and audio records. Also typography is introduced in a factual manner, offering an outside voice. The work continues to explore the documentary process and refers to the relationship of the external frame information. The following two sections are a series of work made with Irish 1981 ex-hunger strikers. These works again move between the division of visual and audio strands. The exploration of a reflexive voice is created again by the use of text panels which are both factual and deconstructive in nature. The final sequence shows an oration from a graveside for a deceased republican.

Film title: Song Archive Iran (soundless)

Running time: 3 min. 42 sec.

Brief film synopsis: The video piece ‘Soundless’ records the challenge of sourcing non-professional female singers in Iran. The work shows a woman preparing to sing however the viewer is denied the performance experience. This is not a gimmick but reveals the hidden form of self-censorship and fear women endure in Iran. By law, public performance of female singers is contentious and professional singers can only perform in front of a female audience. ‘Soundless’ is part of a series of videos that explore the oral culture and the restrictive censorship on the role of women in a theocratic society like Iran.

Film title: Ali:"for unfrequent fliers"

Running time: 4 min.

Brief film synopsis: The video is born together with the show "Ali", prepared at the airport of Bari in the 2000: the work explores a new resonance for my poetic texts, hypothesizing for the user of the structure a "poetic" flight, different from those of the flying habitual; photos of airplanes dismantled without engines, linked for contrast to the hypothesis of a mental flight only made of poetry.

Name/Surname: Fulvio Rifuggio

City/Country: Lecce - Italy

Film title: AUTOMòNO

Running time: 12 min.

Brief film synopsis: The location is a claustrophobic bedroom, some scene shot in the bathroom. This video-document acquaints us with the attempt to wake up from the sleep of reality in such a way as to find ourselves in the bosom of the watch of our own sleeping “antagonist”, catching in his shattered reflexes. The fight takes place during the encounter, made up with sparks in the most anonymous darkness. Time of action is incalculable, the space continually collapses on itself ( cross zooms), the edges of the shot irremediably trespass to the dark place that is the screening hall. The rhythm alternates pauses of quiet contemplation to aggressive accelerations, drastically limiting cutting’s detachments in the individual scenes. The sound is the vocal mimic of what happens in the pictures, recorded on magnetic tape, then digitalized, disassembled to pieces, speed slackened or increased in the grounds of needs of expressiveness, at last reedited, in asynchronous, on four audio tracks.

Film title: Node between People 01

Running time: 6 min. 05 sec.

Brief film synopsis: 1) Node between People 01 / Move your step / Flash animation / 1’ 20” / 2004
According to A. L. Barabasi, Internet is the most effective means for reaching out to the greater public when turning into the third millennium. As the allocation of the infinite information has been enabled, it may even seem feasible to find a certain order in this complicated system. Besides, such random networks have made several paradigms in the minds of the users whether they are aware or not. Accordingly, we can currently communicate faster; we can get connected with each other more easily and our memory logs may have been expended. This show is initiated in an exhibition hall where an artist, a connector prepared. In this specific space, people will encounter and they will interact with each other. As they come across, a social link is inevitably made. Each link is a node. Participants will create numerous nodes while meeting others through the random network program. I wish everyone could experience changes that are brought by a new language and a behavioral pattern while participating this exhibition. I also wish that this could be the opportunity for anyone to realize the personal value as well as the more comprehensive perspective to the life.
2) Node between People 02 / Whisper in every ear / single channel video, flash animation / 2’ 10” / 2004
I wish that images taken by the camera were made more spontaneously and instantaneously by volunteers. This work can finally be complete with the maximum participations of the visitors and the least intervention of the artist. In the initial stage of making the program, the artist involves a lot; however, the images produced by the volunteers in the scene actually means a lot more. People encounter others in this exhibition space; the each meeting point becomes a node. In other words, new social connections are created as they interact. Many of such a social bond creates a new cluster in a society. After all, most individuals will be connected to each other; what we can ultimately realize is that how small the world we are living in is.
3) Node between People 03 / Whisper in every ear / single channel video, flash animation / 0’ 35” / 2004
Tokyo, March 14, 2004, I unexpectedly found a ramen place on a small corner of a street at Shinjuku. I, my friends, tourists and other people who came to eat the ramen sat there; soon the place got crowded with people chatting with each other. When a chef gets an order from one in a group, a conversation may be briefly cut off. Later, the conversation may resume or it may also be shifted. It is also possible that one can overhear something that others discussed. The idea of sharing information was flashed into my mind while I was sitting there. Because the common ownership of the information in unlimited--I assume, this is quite to do with the networks on the Internet, we get to create or to break many of our connections by sharing the information. Such a correlation connotes a lot as a network; I commenced the work with the information of people. Through one image of a person, many people exchange their thoughts. I get to collect diverse ideas and opinions on a person. The accumulated information is stored in my computer; it becomes one of the most significant elements for the future networks.

Film title: An Léim Rúnda

Running time: 2 min.

Brief film synopsis: My work is concerned with the individual experience of the natural world and the force, power and inspiration that is to be found within it. In today's society, I feel that issues around the natural world have b ecome critically important to us once again. To me, the search for the most authentic experience in the contemporary world is found within ourselves and in knowledge of traditional societies where people existed without globalisation; where the individual was all important and all processes took place at the local/individual level: birthing, living, healing, eating, dying. With this knowledge, we can retrieve for ourselves a modicum of this power in our lives. An Léim Rúnda arises from my research into shamanism and shamanic healing practices. Shamans utilised the poweres they found within nature to enrich and better the lives of their tribe. They were seen to be skilled psychic voyagers, psychopomps and healers and soul retrievers. This video is an expression of this mystic voyage, versions of which are found in almost every culture. The element of transformation and transcendence is strongly referred to as is the shaman's role of psychopomp.
