ArtExpo 2002 is an important event that will bring artists from all over the world to the historic center of Polignano a Mare (Bari), an enchanted town overlooking the Adriatic Sea; it is a grand occasion, in which one the most beautiful towns of Puglia shows all its splendours.

The show will engage all of Polignano a Mare for the whole month of August 2002. The exhibit will be centered at the landmarks of Polignanese cultural history: the "Pino Pascali gallery" and Santo Stefano church, both located in the historic part of town.

20,000 people will receive invitations to the event, 5000 program announcements will be posted in town, and there will be a general catalogue with photos and information on all the participating artists. There will also be detailed information on the exhibition and related activities in the major local and national papers and magazines, and on major art internet portals.

The "Pino Pascali" Gallery:
The "Pino Pascali" gallery is in Santo Stefano, a small former church in the historic center, atop the bastion of the same name, overlooking the Adriatic. St. Stefano is probably the oldest church in Polignano, built in the twelfth century and consecrated to the Normans' most beloved saint, rebuilt most probably in the fourteenth or fifteenth century, and intact to this day. The church is opposite the monumental entrance gate to the town, at the other end of the historic center. The Santo Stefano church is next to the gate.

ArtExpo 2002 was financed entirely by the artists who were invited to participate, selected by a jury made up both of nationally and internationally famous artists, and of artists of the national art panorama who aren't so well known. Works submitted to be judged by the committee of experts can be of any genre or from any movement, and can be created by any technique; this includes photography, and within certain limits digital and video art. Each painter will be assigned an exhibition space one or two meters long by 2 or 3 meters high (measurements depend on whether the works are shown in the "Pino Pascali" Gallery or in Santo Stefano church). Each artist must show a minimum of three works. Each work must be made of one piece only, and must be shipped in a lightweight frame, without glass. Artists working in photography may show a maximum of 12 pieces, labelled and mounted on panels by the artist beforehand. Each sculptor will be assigned 6 square meters of exhibition space for at least three works, with bases, and each work must weigh 60 kilograms or less and must be 2.5 meters or less in height, including the base. Mural sculptures are also accepted.

The artists may show as many works as they want (minimum three). The deadline for applications is May 31, 2002. For more information you may contact the ArtExpo organization through "
